Yes, I was born in Latin America. But, I must admit that growing up in an Anglo-Saxon environment has made me into something of an Anglophile. At least one of my contributors has said that Americans have no King. But, I am one of those who would not be in the least opposed to a constitutional monarchy with a parliament. No system of political organization is perfect. But, I must admit that English writers, such as C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and G.K. Chesterton, have ably presented the argument for monarchy. To argue that somehow monarchy is worse, in the face of a dysfunctional Congress, seems to be a losing argument.
I am astute enough to know that a constitutional parliamentary monarchy has its own problems, but now they look less problematic than our current system of inaction with wasted funds. Being a priest for several decades, whether under Anglicanism or under Orthodoxy, has led me to understand that hierarchical leadership is not intrinsically evil. It is an American myth that hierarchy is somehow intrinsically wrong. Whether a democratic republicanism or a constitutional monarchy, the people do have a strong voice. But, a constitutional monarchy … . Well, I will stop here. Leave it said that I am an Anglophile of long standing. It is not a topic that I will belabor or fight for, because of its problems. But, it has a lot to be said for it.
