Sadly, racism still exists even in a standard evangelical denomination

27 July 2012 · by  1 Comment

The video above sadly illustrates a hidden reality in various congregations, a reality that is usually carefully hidden. Evangelists, such as Billy Graham have decried that for decades. ““Eleven o’clock Sunday morning is the most segregated hour in America,” declared civil-rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., in a well-known line he used a number of times. What is not so well known is that the remark was first made by someone else in a 1950s Reader’s Digest article on racism. The article was written by King’s friend, evangelist Billy Graham.” There are many reasons for that segregation, as well as many apologists for it. Nevertheless, what is true of the congregations in America is that most of them could not truly say that among them there is no Jew nor Greek no rich nor poor, etc. For most of them there might be a rare few of the other, but precious little mixing of all. Among the Orthodox, the divisions tend to be ethnic rather than color, but there is little doubt that among some congregations ethnicity is still held in an inappropriate way.
