Lybia, the USA, and the United Nations

19 March 2011 · by  7 Comments

Just about six hours ago, United Nations approved forces from several countries began punitive attacks on Lybia to force it to obey United Nations resolutions. USA forces are simply one of several countries involved in the attacks.  The British Armed Forces actually launched many of the Tomahawks and planes that struck Libya. French and British […]

Denial of Service attack

19 March 2011 · by  Leave a Comment

The server which hosts the OrthoCuban blog apparently suffered a severe Denial of Service account with a DNS failure. So, not only this blog, but anything hosted on that service was down. But, we are back.

First week of Lent worship services

9 March 2011 · by  Fr. Ernesto 2 Comments

As those of you who are Orthodox know, the first week of Lent has eight evening services in a row. As a result, for those of us who are priests and work a secular job, we tend to disappear from the radar. I have tried to keep up posting this week, but I can see […]

Statement by Met. Jonah on his Lenten retreat

28 February 2011 · by  Fr. Ernesto Leave a Comment

The video below will only be of interest, really, to those who are in the OCA or to those who have heard some inaccurate rumors lately about Metropolitan Jonah. This video will help to correct those rumors. His Beatitude, Metropolitan JONAH Addresses the Faithful of the Archdiocese of Washington from Archdiocese of Washington on Vimeo.

Various trivia

17 February 2011 · by  Fr. Ernesto 6 Comments

I am on a trip, so let me put down some quick trivia for you. How did Dr. Watson meet Sherlock Holmes? In what city, town or village? How was Dr. Watson wounded? In what war? What knowledge did Sherlock Holmes tell Dr. Watson that he would try to forget. Why? How much did Dr. […]

The bells ringing — Annie Herring

11 February 2011 · by  Fr. Ernesto 2 Comments

Yesterday I commented on the ringing of Orthodox bells. But, that put me in mind of an old Jesus People song. The lyrics were written by Annie Herring of Second Chapter of Acts, but they were popularized by Keith Green. How many of you remember them, or maybe still play them at Easter time? Hear […]

Why there are multiple steps in medicine

8 February 2011 · by  Fr. Ernesto 3 Comments

The video above makes one ache. A woman wanting a child is given an chemotherapy/abortifacent drug by mistake because her first and last name are almost identical to the first and last name of a nearly 60 year old woman who does need to receive the drug for legitimate non-abortion medical reasons. This video gives […]

Memories and children

4 February 2011 · by  Fr. Ernesto 1 Comment

All children grow up. But, we who are parents spend so many years raising them that sometimes we forget that there was a time before we had children and that there will be a time after our children are grown. We may be parents until the day we die, but we only raise our children […]

The makeup of the Christian community in Israel

29 January 2011 · by  2 Comments

Father Orthoduck is an Antiochian priest. That means that he has many friends who are either Arab immigrant or descended from Arabs. This is part of the reason why he questions strongly some of the all-too-common American attitudes towards “Arabs.” Father Orthoduck would wish to remind readers that until the Islamic conquests the largest part […]
