I believed my website had adequate protection against attacks. I had JetPack enabled, and it was supposedly monitoring my website for security issues. However, recently I noticed that Jetpack was now asking for an annual fee for previously free checking. So, I decided to accept it. I could not be more upset. This site had five infections, making it a malware tool and likely a site that forwards attacks to many others.
I am fairly tech-savvy regarding this type of attack. However, since I had enabled what I thought was a reasonable protection suite, I was not prepared for the realization that the commercial provider had done the typical modern thing, which is to leverage a free product to monetize it. I apparently did not receive the initial notification, and I am quite upset. So, watch out for Jetpack if you still have an old-fashioned blog.
And, if you still have an old-fashioned blog, you may wish to have it scanned by a realiable malware program. You may be infected.
