Mother is with us

No, this is not a theological post. The headline literally says what it means. While this is a photograph from a few years ago, my mother still looks pretty much the same, but a little thinner and grayer hair.

In five days, mother turns 92 years old. She made the decision to come live with us for various reasons. It was a tough decision for her to leave her long-time home in Miami, FL and come to the wilds of Alabama, where there are no restaurants that serve a decent cup of cafecito or even any arroz con pollo. In fact, mom’s first sight of Trussville, a suburb of Birmingham, led mom to say that we lived in the country. Now, if any of you know Birmingham and Trussville, you know that in Alabama this is NOT considered the countryside. But, in comparison to Dade County, Birmingham appears to be the countryside to her. I think it is too late to change her mind about Birmingham being country. But, I am so glad she is with us.

Besides being around her son, she is also around her granddaughter, grandson-in-law, and six great-grandchildren. I hope she is happy here with us. Do keep her, and all of us, in your prayers. And pray that she transitions well to living with us.

As a Cuban transplant I know how hard to leave that behind but at least she’s with family. I’ll keep you in my prayers.
