For members of the Tea Party

10 February 2010 · by  8 Comments

By and large Father Orthoduck is not in favor of the Tea Party. Nevertheless, Father Orthoduck posts the cartoon above. Given the extremely low rating that Congress has, regardless of whether one is a Democrat or a Republican, the cartoon above points to a uniting point between Democrats, Republican, Independents, Libertarians, Anarchists, etc. Sadly, that uniting point is an utter revulsion about the ethics that are demonstrated by the members of Congress.

For all the talk about ethics, both the Democrats and the Republicans have and continue to engage in pork barrel politics. Some of the latest cases are every bit as bad as anything that the banker’s have done with their bonuses. So, part of Father Orthoduck’s wish is that the snowstorms continue unabated and strong over only the city of Washington, DC. Please note that Father Orthoduck wishes no snow over non-governmental parts of Virginia and Maryland, but will make an exception for sections of the Pentagon, the CIA, and some other governmental entities.

Nevertheless, may Arlington Cemetery stay snow-free, mildly warm, and full of flowers. May the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier remain free of dirt or dust. May the Vietnam Wall, the WWII memorial, the Iwo Jima memorial and others remain accessible at all times. May the Peace Corps always be accessible.

Let’s get it to snow in Sacramento, too.

When they talk about the “inside the beltway” mindset, I can witness to the fact that there is just a different way of thinking the closer you get to the “hallowed halls of government.” Nothing outside the beltway is quite real to some of these folks including the constituents they were elected to represent. It might have something to do with the power corrupting thing. Official Washington DC is like Bizarro world–everything backwards, twisted and wrong. It is not an easy thing to swim against the tide there and not many have been able to do it. The malady inflicts itself on lobbyists and those go to DC to try to change the minds of Congress as well. Commonsense and reason seem to be driven out and the most asinine of thinking is engaged. Long time bureaucrats also get afflicted adn pretty soon there is no one anywhere who has the sense God gave a flea. I say throw them all out–select folks from each district/state by lot to serve one term in the Senate, two in the House and insist on responsible policy, fiscal restraint, and a balanced budget. But then I do not live inside the beltway…..

I do find it amusing, though, that most Federal workers live outside the beltway, as do most lobbyists; inside the beltway, especially in the eastern half, is largely lower income; the people who work the stores and cafeterias that cater to the feds, and those who run the stores that cater to them.

As one who lives in the DC area, works for the government, and is enjoying my time off (I haven’t been to work in six days, and I’d be shocked if we’re open tomorrow), I agree. Though, for the sake of the troops, it’s probably best that much of the combat support services get back to work soon.

I hear y’all, especially Alix. HOWEVER, the federal government is the only thing standing between us and life as depicted in the movie “Rollerball”.

These snow storms are the best things that could happen for the rest of the country, it closed down Congress, now if we could only get the President and Gibbs to keep quiet. quiet.

Hey, I am a member of the Tea Party!

… If by “Tea Party”, you mean a society of tea (especially herbal) enthusiasts 😉

Q: Why do leftists only drink herbal tea?

A: Because all proper tea is theft. (rim shot)
