On the way to a new posting

Both Father Ernesto and Father Orthoduck have been assigned to a new place by their bishop. They are in the process of moving to Alabama. Posting is suspended for this day and maybe the next. Do pray for our move, especially for the pastora (khourie, presbitera, matushka) who bears so much of the brunt of a move.  Read More →

Of which non-English language am I talking?

This non-English language is one of the top five non-English languages used in the USA. I am not talking about any computer languages or mathematical symbology, etc. This non-English language is used by regular people. Use of this language has the full and unequivocal support of the Congress of the United States by members of both parties. No demonstrations have ever been held against this language.... [Read more]

Incredible guitar playing

Trying three months

Yesterday we drove to North Carolina. Today is the funeral of our nephew, who served with honor in the Air Force. This has been a trying three months for us. Two months ago, my stepfather died. Last month a six-year old cousin-in-law drowned in a pool. This month we are at our nephew’s funeral. I found myself thinking that this reminds me of the warning by Our Lord himself that we do not know... [Read more]

Military service with honor

Yesterday evening the Air Force notified my brother-in-law and his wife that their son, our nephew, had been killed. At this point we do not know the details. We do know that the whole family is heart sore over the news. My brother-in-law and his wife have another son in the military. He is in the Navy. This is so typical of brothers, if one goes into one service, then the other has to go into another... [Read more]

Pithless Thoughts on true priesthood

Father Orthoduck is on the road, so he is printing below parts of a post from Pithless Thoughts. Please do follow the link and read the full post. Father Ernesto hopes to be able to blog again tomorrow. It is no secret to those who know me that I aspired to the priesthood for about 50 years of my life. For 30 of those years since I got fired from my one “full time ministry job” I’ve... [Read more]

Lightning delays

My apologies for the continuing delays in more postings on government. The reason for the delay yesterday, which is extending into today, is that I had a lightning strike with a power surge near my home. Of course, I was out and about at the time. Despite surge protection at the entry to the house wiring, despite an UPS standing guard on one computer, and an UPS with VPR on the other computer, I still... [Read more]

Overboard Red Sox fans

I meant to continue the posting on government today, but some matters have come up. I will try to return to my posting on government tomorrow. In the meantime, please glance at the above comic. Mind you, I knew that the Boston Red Sox fans are a hard-core group, but I think that the cartoon above is just a mite over the top. GRIN. Hey Red Sox fans, loosen up just a little, you could be a Chicago Cubs... [Read more]

The Talmud on the raising of children

Due to a blog post on another site, I did some research on what the Talmud said on the raising of children. Why did I do that? Because too many people today will quote Scriptures like, “spare the rod and spoil the child,” and will insist that this means that the godly thing to do it to administer strong spankings as necessary. After all smacking someone with a birch rod hurts! I have no... [Read more]

Brazil lost!!

In one of the more startling results of an already startling World Cup, Brazil was defeated by the Netherlands 2-1. Father Orthoduck was not a fan of Brazil, so he is not too unhappy with this result, but he is startled. Sadly, Ghana lost. Father Orthoduck knows absolutely nothing about the Ghanian team, but he was hoping that at least one of the African countries would make it to the finals, since... [Read more]
